Seeking out therapy is a brave act —
a bold first step in creating powerful change in your life.
Welcome! I know that it’s not always easy to seek out support, but I am glad that you’ve found your way to my website. Sometimes life’s challenges can feel too overwhelming to navigate on our own, and we may need some outside perspective and guidance to see our way through. My goal is to provide you with a safe and supportive space where you feel deeply seen and heard, and to help you find the right tools to make meaningful change in your life.
Lauren Maher, MA, LMFT, Licensed Therapist and Trauma Specialist
I work with individuals who are experiencing anxiety, overwhelm, trauma, PTSD, grief, and relationship issues, as well as those who are simply seeking greater self-awareness and insight. I work collaboratively with my clients to define their needs and goals, and tailor an approach that works best for them. My clients tend to be curious, creative, philosophical, and thoughtful people who are motivated to create change in their lives. I am trained in both EMDR and Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), and I enjoy teaching my clients concrete, practical tools that they can use to improve their daily lives. I believe in drawing upon my clients' inherent strengths and sense of resiliency, and I am particularly interested in the link between the body and mind.
In addition to my counseling work, I am a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT) and yoga teacher (ERYT-500). Since 2001, I have taught yoga, mindfulness, and meditation in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, weSPARK Cancer Support Center, and a residential eating disorder facility. I am the author of Mindfulness Workbook for Panic Attacks: Healing Strategies to Reduce Anxiety, Manage Panic, and Live in the Moment, published by Rockridge Press.
Prior to specializing in health care, I worked for many years as an actor in film and theatre. Though it may appear to be an unrelated field at first glance, I've found that the insights I gained from this industry in regards to self-inquiry, psychology, body awareness, empathy, and teamwork have been invaluable and highly applicable to the world of mental health. I have a great respect for the creative process and for the unique issues that artists, musicians, performers, and entertainment industry professionals face while pursuing their dreams and goals.
I offer in-person sessions, as well as online and phone sessions. Please feel free to call me at 323-438-9972 or click the button below to book a free 15-minute consultation.
