Integrative Trauma and Anxiety Therapy in California | EMDR & Somatic Therapy
Lauren Maher, LMFT – Licensed Therapist & Trauma Specialist | Integrative Mind-Body Approach
Seeking out therapy is a brave act — a bold first step in creating powerful change in your life. Welcome. I know that it’s not always easy to seek out support, but I am glad that you’ve found your way here. Sometimes life’s challenges can feel too overwhelming to navigate on our own, and we may need some outside perspective and guidance to see our way through. My goal is to provide you with a safe and supportive space where you feel deeply seen and heard, and to help you find the right tools to make meaningful, lasting change in your life.
Therapy for Anxiety, Trauma, Narcissistic Abuse, Life Transitions & Personal Growth
I work with creative, high achieving individuals who are experiencing anxiety, trauma, PTSD, narcissistic abuse, grief, and relationship issues, as well as those who are simply seeking greater self-awareness and personal growth. My clients tend to be curious, insightful people who are highly motivated to create change in their lives. I work collaboratively with my clients to define their needs and goals, and tailor an approach that works best for them. I am trained various modalities for treating trauma and nervous system dysregulation, such as EMDR, Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), and Brainspotting, and I enjoy teaching my clients concrete, practical tools that they can use to improve their daily lives. I believe in drawing upon my clients' inherent strengths and sense of resiliency and I am particularly interested in the link between the body and mind - my practice incorporates somatic, relational, and cognitive approaches in order to support healing on multiple levels.
Integrating Mindfulness, Yoga, and Mental Health
In addition to my counseling work, I am a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT), which deeply informs the way I work. In our sessions, I’ll help you tune into your body, understand your nervous system, and use grounding and mindfulness techniques to feel calmer and more present. You’ll learn simple, practical tools to ease anxiety, take down the charge of emotional triggers, and reconnect with yourself. I bring over two decades of experience teaching yoga, mindfulness, and meditation in both clinical and community settings into the therapy room, and I’m the author of The Mindfulness Workbook for Panic Attacks (Rockridge Press), which offers strategies to reduce anxiety and build resilience in daily life.
Supporting Artists, Creatives, Performers, and Entertainment Industry Professionals
Before specializing in mental health, I worked professionally as an actor, which gives me unique insight into the challenges faced by artists, creatives, performers, and those in the entertainment industry. I provide a supportive and informed space for you to explore such issues as: creative blocks, imposter syndrome, perfectionism, burnout, financial instability, and balancing public vs. private identity. Together, we’ll help you find balance, purpose, and confidence in your creative life.
